Management Lecture Series in September 2014 (Youth)

Robert Kennedy
“This world demands the qualities of youth; not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the life of ease.”

Demographic of Malaysia Youth
•             13.37 Mil Youth (15-40 years old)
•             60% Malay youth, 20% are Chinese youth, 10% Indian youth
•             74.1% reside in urban area

Sheer heterogeneity of individuals we have placed under the 'youth' rubric.

Issues among youths conflate around two main themes
1. Competitiveness
Factory - laboratory
Vocational education - >60% of Germans undertake

2. Identity (which I will expand on today)
We live in ethnic silos and lead parallel lives
No domination narrative for Malaysians

What we need to know/do
1. More contact points for people of different backgrounds (increase the contact hours)
Bring people together at the formative years of their lives

At some point, we will need a generational reset.
